Senator Leahy: We Demand A Public Release of Legal Memos on Drone Strikes
On February 8, 2013, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) wrote to President Obama requesting that he share with the Committee any legal memos on the targeted killings of Americans abroad. He pressed the President to disclose these opinions as “the deliberate killing of a United States citizen pursuant to a targeted operation authorized or aided by our Government raises significant constitutional and legal concerns that fall squarely within the jurisdiction of the Committee.” The Judiciary Committee has yet to receive these memos. Join us and send a letter to Senator Leahy, urging him to renew his demand for a release of these legal opinions, but publicly. He should pressure the Department of Justice to release these memos not only to the Judiciary Committee, but to us, the people. We deserve to know who is being killed in our name, and why.
